If you’re looking to go overlanding in your living truck, you may not find proper meals around you for days. This is why it doesn’t hurt to become self-sufficient and cook your own meals. Now, your kitchen has to have some basic stuff in order for it to be called as such.
So, the following piece shows you the must-haves when it comes to stacking up your kitchen.
This one’s pretty obvious since you’ll need to cook. A compact stove in the right hands gets you scrumptious meals throughout your overlanding journey. Now, you can keep a cookstove that packs away in the kitchen, or a kitchen box that can open up outside (for a smaller truck or better cooking).
A stove without gas will only take up valuable space. A propane tank will contain the fuel needed to power your cooking adventures. This sturdy storage tank is refillable and it doesn’t weigh more than a couple of pounds. Just ensure that the tank is reliable and that it doesn’t leak out.
A torch of this kind puts every single lighter to shame. You can start all sorts of fires with this; especially useful if your stove is acting up. Connect this to your propane tank, which will give it a fuel supply. You can use this torch outside the kitchen as well.
You’ll need something to put out an accidental fire. An extinguisher is already an essential for your expedition truck. You should always keep a separate one for your kitchen though. You don’t necessarily need a large extinguisher for this. There are many smaller models available in the market.
Coffee is an essential part of staying awake and refreshed on long overlanding trips. But in order to make it quickly on the go, you’ll need an espresso maker.
In order to cook your meals, you’ll need pots and/or pans. A simple cooking set should provide you with all of the basics. An overlanding-based cooking set will be more compact and storable in nature.
Let’s say you’ve cooked your meal; how are you going to feast on it? Well, you’ll need a set of spoons, forks and knives. You can find a box full of them that should be of high quality and inflammable.
Fridges are cool and all but what if you don’t have one? In this case, you’ll need a cooler to keep your stuff in low temperature. From beverages to ingredients, a cooler can handle it all.
Always keep a first aid kit with you especially in your kitchen. It isn’t uncommon to experience a kitchen accident. You could injure a body part by cutting it or by burning it. A first aid kit should help you here as it can either fix the problem or it can keep you in working condition before you get to a medic.
These were the 8 essentials for your living truck kitchen. Try to ensure that you have them all before beginning your trip.
