My overlander friends Coque and Miriam from Red Mamut (www.redmamut-adventure.com) have asked me to publish their vehicle for sale. They purchased it from a fire station in Europe a few years ago, with only 20,000 kilometers (12,500 miles) from factory and in amazing shape. They then shipped it to Argentina and started their 3-year Pan American experience. They are currently in the USA-last stop of their trip-and exploring the possibility of selling it. The LT 4x4 is a rare monster, and more so in the USA. While the LT was a mass commercial vehicle in Europe and other parts of the world, only about 2,500 were built in the 4x4 version, for special uses. These were designed to perform well off road, equipped with good clearance, differential locks front and rear, high and low geared, and a 6 cylinder turbo diesel engine; the same powerplant as some 740 and 940 Volvos and Pinzgauers use. Five speed manual transmission, the automatic lever seen in the cabin is what VW used in these units as a shifter from high to low gear. The vehicle is very capable off road, I own one and have tested thoroughly.
About the vehicle: 1989 model originally equipped for fire fighting, converted into a camper. Current odometer reads 89,500 kms (56,000 miles!) from factory. It has been well maintained, even when on the road: engine, differential, gear oil, filters, timing belt, and lube at factory recommended intervals. The camper conversion includes two solar panels (150W each), two deep cycle batteries (110 amp each), LED light bar, interior LED lighting with dimmer, diesel stationary heater with digital command, installation for an inverter with two outlets, electric water heater (10 liter), fresh water heater (70 liter), potable water tank (20 liter), gray water tank (20 liters), Smev gas cooktop with two burners, compressor fridge with freezer which also works with 110V when plugged, hydraulic table which converts into a double bed, water and gas external connections. No rust. All works as expected in the vehicle and camper conversion.
Windshield has a small crack that has remained unchanged for the last three years.
Comes with spare parts.
Vehicle currently in Yellowstone, but can travel for drop off.
Registered in their name with German license plates registration. Being over 25 years old importation to the USA is possible without complications.
