We took delivery of our truck in 2015 and have since then enjoyed many long and trouble free journeys with him. The truck itself is a Steyr 12M18 with first registration 1987. It had 30 000 km on the clock then and was totally refurbished by the company EXCAP (www.excap.de). In fact when we took delivery of him he was, without exaggeration, better than new. The cabin was custom build by ORMOCAR (www.Ormocar.de) and only the very best materials were used.
First registration (TÜV) was in Germany in 2015. The major requirements when designing the cabin was; a large bathroom with a large shower area, a full size bed which would allow you to get in and out of bed without having to crawl over you partner, enough solar powered energy to make external charging redundant and enough fresh water to last a while. These were achieved by designing a retractable bed (200 x 160 cm), a shower area of 80 x 80 cm and 2 x lithium ion batteries each 300 Ah and a 400 liter fresh water tank. Naturally external shower with cold and hot water is also available. Hot water is supplied through an electrical boiler, heating through a Eberhard diesel heater and stove and oven gas fired. Fixed 40 kg gas tank. External facilities include gas connection for outdoor stove, which is stored in one of the two garage compartments. An electrical winch and mounting rack (for motorbike or scooter) or spare wheel on the back of the cabin. We normally travel with our Yamaha scooter on the back. If wanted it can be included with the truck. All in all, our many travels and comparing our truck with fellow travelers with similar vehicles, we are convinced that our truck is as close to optimal as possible. Last, but not least, we chose a Steyr because it has no electronics, which inevitably goes faulty, an engine which is not sensitive to “dirty” diesel and its very reliable and easy to maintain. The turning circle (smaller than most saloon cars) and the compactness of the truck makes it a true “go anywhere” vehicle.
Why are we selling him? After 8 years on the road, we have decided to downsize a bit and spend a bit more time at home.
