Backstory:
This truck was built and used for off-grid camping and race support down in Mexico. My father-in-law was a massive rally enthusiast and raced all over the world and several years ago, the time came to build a support truck/expedition vehicle to chase races south of the border and take the family camping. It was that need that resulted in this behemoth. This Kodiak was built with lots of Dakar Rally inspiration in the design (look at any of the non-cab over race trucks). Sure, you could go with other cab over options but considering we live in the States, parts are aplenty for a GMC and because this began its life as an on-road vehicle, it easily cruises at highway speeds making it very easy to drive. The chassis was purchased from Prospect Motor Co. out of Ohio in 2013.
Capability:
The two of us at full capacity, could do about 2 weeks totally off the grid in this truck before needing to get supplies. We’ve had this thing through some steep grades in off-road conditions and this truck took it like a champ. The air-seat, rear camera, awesome suspension and power steering make this truck a breeze to drive for its size. It certainly is a head-turner and huge to boot at about 9’ wide from mirror to mirror, around 28’ long and 13’ tall.
Things to note:
The engine was rebuilt a few years back however, there was nothing catastrophically wrong with it. It was just in for service and the engine rebuild ended up being one of those “you might as well do it while you’re here” kind of things due to the fact that PPE basically needed to pull the engine to perform the task at hand. Upon further inspection, the rotating assembly was in perfect condition given the mileage.
Why is it for sale?
The reason it is for sale is that its owner (my father-in-law) passed away and the family no longer has a need for it nor has the funds to keep it. I am pretty knowledgeable about most of the work done to this truck and am therefore helping my mother-in-law sell it. The parts are listed below with any shops/brands notated. I have nearly every receipt from the build as well. Please message me if you have any questions or would like to know more about it. This truck has been a wonderful toy for our family for years and it will certainly be sad to see it go. I’m sure whoever owns it next will have a great time and make memories just as we did. As I find more pictures I’ll include them in this post. If there are any detailed images you’d like please be patient as the truck is in storage and I’ll need to make time to head down and get what you need.
Thanks for looking!
